7 Changes that will Help You Add Creativity to Your Life
“Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.” Edward de Bono
Whether you realize it or not, you were created by the Creator to be creative.
Sometimes we have subscribed to the notion that a person is either creative or analytical, that we have to be one or the other.
However, the beauty of it is that we were all made to be creative.
Creativity includes things like making a meal a little differently, writing a book, starting a business, or solving a problem in a new way.
Sometimes we have moments of creativity that come to us in a flash. Some ideas seem to come to us in a moment. And other times, we wonder if that creative moment will ever come back to us.
The beauty is that there will be some times when God will take over and creativity will flow. At other times, it will look more like a partnership.
There are some changes that need to take place in our mindset to help you flow more freely in the creative process.

7 Mindsets that will help You add Creativity to Your Life
Here are some thoughts on how to position yourself to have the right mindset so your are open for new creative ideas to come into your life.
1. Break Old Habits – You cannot be truly creative until you break some rules and deliberately remove barriers that block your creativity. Get rid of tradition and begin a new normal. Those unspoken rules have put your mind in jail. Change how you define yourself. When you live trapped in the same old mindset, it stops you from exploring yourself. Ask yourself what is on the other side of your fear? Don’t live, get old and die without being willing to break those self-imposed rules.
2. Clear the Clutter – Clutter is those emotional blocks that stop you from being creative. Often it’s the chronic sources of insecurity that stop us from being creative and from becoming all we can be. Your pipeline of creativity might be clogged because of what happened to you in your childhood or from the anger you have from what happened in your old job, etc. The most disappointing thing in the world is to lose what you love because you hold so tightly to your insecurities. Have the faith and courage it takes to clear the clutter.
3. Overcome Limited Resources – Think outside of your budget. Dream beyond your means. You can be stuck ten years doing the same things because your mind can’t get out. And if your mind can’t get out, your money can’t either. Creative people don’t live their lives by what they can afford. Instead they focus on what they want and they think creatively to find a way to go get it. So don’t bring your ‘want to’ down to where you are living right now. Believe in your dreams and goals more than your reality – then you’ll shatter your reality and walk into your dream.[Tweet this]
4. Storm the Gates – Throw all kinds of ideas against the gate that’s standing in your way, until something sticks. Don’t judge your thoughts before you get it out there and consider all the possibilities. Throw all your concepts and creativity at the gate. Toss everything at your obstacle until you knock it down. Imagine all the people in the early 1900s who thought the Wright brothers were crazy to think they could invent a machine that could fly. But they kept throwing their ideas out there at the obstacles in their way. Decide what you’re willing to do to get beyond the gates.
5. Break Your Own Routine – Stop being predictable and get out of the box. Go somewhere you haven’t been before. To be creative you need to draw inspiration from new sources. You might meet new people if you would take the time to break your own routine. There’s nothing as painful as locking up an exciting person in a boring life. Break out of your routine. It seems like a small thing but it does matter.
6. Follow Your Instincts – Where do you sense destiny is pulling you toward? Is your purpose pulling you instinctively toward a place to which you feel unprepared? When instinct and intellect ride the wheel together, ride the wheel to instinct.[Tweet this] Intellect only validates the hunch you felt. A lot of creative things are done on instinct. Put your money on your instincts. Do you have some idea kicking inside of you, some passion that you’re excited about? This is the year to listen to your creative impulses and move with the change.
7. Leave Space for Creativity to Evolve – If everything is finished in the space you’re in, there’s no room to create. Some of us are imprisoned by jobs, people or circumstances that don’t give us any room for creative expression. Plus, your life is so structured that God can’t get in it with a blow torch. I love what Oprah Winfrey tells her staff before they go on to do a show: Don’t lock it down too tight. I believe in leaving room for God to walk in the door. [Tweet this]
Always leave room for God to walk in the door. Leave space for the spectacular, supernatural and the exceptional.
This year get ready to go through a metamorphosis. Do your little bit everyday to get ready for what you are called to do.
It’s time for a partnership between you and God. He is clearing away clutter and giving you a new perspective on yourself.
Free up yourself so you can create.
