Your CV - Australia Gets LinkedIn
LinkedIn is increasingly used by Australian recruiters and job seekers. Recently published statistics indicate about 4 million LinkedIn users based in Australia. This is a phenomenal growth for a company that had only 1 million local users when it opened an office in Sydney in early 2010 (BRW: March 14, 2013).
For some of you not familiar with LinkedIn, it is a social networking site geared mainly used for professional networking company. Some have described it as "Facebook" of the company.
LinkedIn is actively used by Australian recruiters looking for potential talent, where a company will see the LinkedIn profile of an individual as a de facto summary. This form of recruitment has become more important with many Australian companies because it removes the middle man (and cost) of the job search process, while allowing more targeted research campaign.
Similarly, local job seekers use LinkedIn to land work. Employers can see a person's profile in LinkedIn, and direct contact if they like what they see. Job seekers also have the opportunity to actively look for a job through the job search section within LinkedIn, or through referrals from members of their network.
Therefore individuals need to ensure that their LinkedIn profiles are complete and up to date. As a resume writer, one of the first things I do is look at the LinkedIn profile of a customer for details background. Too often I see poorly written or incomplete LinkedIn profiles that provide a negative first impression. You can be sure that many local recruiters will also be accessing the LinkedIn profile of an individual to validate the information resume.
Due to the enormous growth in the use of LinkedIn, I am increasingly asked to revise or update the LinkedIn profiles of Australian customers who are eager to expand their job search options ensuring that their LinkedIn profiles are complete, professional and credible.
Here are some tips to ensure that your Linked In profile leaves a positive impression;
Make sure your LinkedIn profile is complete, well structured and well written. Recruiters do not hesitate to use LinkedIn, and will quickly reject your application if your profile is not up to par.
Use appropriate keywords in your profile section to optimize research recruiters. This will help you to be "discovered" by local recruiters.
Update your profile regularly. I would say at least twice a year. The "set and forget" approach may leave a negative impression with recruiters if the information in your profile is clearly obsolete.
Connect with people, join groups, consult the recommendations and participate in relevant discussions. But do it in a targeted manner. The haphazard approach will leave an impression of confusion and / or negative.
For these obvious reasons, if you intend uploading a photo, use a good professional looking picture quality

For two reasons, I would not recommend downloading your actual CVs LinkedIn. First, a typical CV contain personal information that you do not want accessible to all. And secondly, you do not want to review and upload your CV to LinkedIn on a regular basis.
